Pause, take stock and recognise the experiences, values and relationships that make you who you are.
Let’s talk ↗Welcome to Retirement Excellence CIC
Your retirement. Your possibilities.
We help people create happier, healthier and more purposeful retirements through friendly workshops, practical planning and stronger communities.
For people approaching retirement, older adults, communities and organisations.

We exist to help people be brilliant at retirement—and to help brilliant people build brilliant communities.
Retirement can bring freedom, curiosity and fresh possibility. But a fulfilling retirement rarely happens by accident. Through welcoming workshops, practical tools, mentoring and community activity, we help older adults think about how they really want to live.
We are a Community Interest Company working across Swansea and Gower with independent-living schemes, community groups, Men’s Sheds, organisations and local partners.
“Brilliant people create brilliant communities, and brilliant communities help people live brilliant lives.”

Pause, take stock and recognise the experiences, values and relationships that make you who you are.

Stay curious, try new things and make room for wellbeing, learning, friendship and everyday enjoyment.

Turn possibility into direction with a practical, personal plan built around the life you want to live.

Everything we offer is friendly, practical and positive—creating the space, confidence and connections for people to take their next step.

Friendly, practical workshops that help people explore purpose, connection, wellbeing and what they want from their next chapter.
Together, we turn reflection into fresh ideas and achievable next steps—creating a retirement plan for life, not simply a plan for finances.
“A brilliant retirement deserves a plan.”

Helping residents turn good places to live into connected, welcoming communities shaped by their own ideas and energy.
Our conversations can spark walking groups, coffee mornings, boccia teams, shared days out, volunteering and friendships that continue long after a workshop ends.
“Brilliant people create brilliant communities.”

Helping organisations support retiring employees, retain valuable knowledge and make phased retirement more purposeful.
We encourage thoughtful transitions, mentoring and knowledge-sharing so experience is valued while employees prepare confidently for what comes next.
“Experience should be shared—not simply allowed to walk out of the door.”
Workshops Friendly, practical and adaptable
Every session is shaped around the people in the room. We can offer a short introduction, a fuller facilitated workshop or a programme of conversations for communities and organisations.
A welcoming introduction to planning how you want to live—not simply how you will finance retirement.
A positive, practical conversation that helps residents recognise their strengths and turn shared ideas into local action.
Support for thoughtful transitions that prepare employees for retirement while retaining valuable knowledge and experience.

Our foundations
Our three pillars bring every part of Retirement Excellence CIC together. We support people to shape a purposeful retirement, help communities become welcoming places where older adults can contribute and thrive, and work with businesses to retain valuable knowledge through thoughtful retirement planning and mentoring.
Find purpose, build connections and create a retirement shaped around what matters most.
Bring people together, encourage participation and turn local ideas into lasting activity.
Prepare people well for retirement while sharing experience, knowledge and mentoring skills.
The outcome of our structured approach
Our Reflect, Refresh and Refocus conversations lead to a clear, colourful one-page plan for the life you want to live in retirement. It captures what matters to you, the possibilities you want to explore and the practical steps that will help you move forward.
Take stock of your values, strengths, experiences, relationships and what gives your life meaning now.
Explore fresh ideas for wellbeing, learning, connection, contribution, curiosity and everyday enjoyment.
Choose your priorities and turn them into realistic first steps, with the support and timescales that suit you.
Uniquely yours. No two plans will be the same. This is not a financial or pension plan—it is a personal, practical guide to living well in retirement. You can revisit it as your interests, circumstances and ambitions evolve.

Our workshops have sparked resident-led walking groups, boccia teams, coffee get-togethers, days out and new friendships. The best outcome is not something we deliver—it is what people feel confident to create together afterwards.

Our impact is visible in what people feel confident to create together after a conversation. These are some of the outcomes already growing through our work.
Workshop conversations have encouraged residents to get outdoors together, creating activity, routine and new friendships.
Simple resident-led ideas have grown into regular opportunities to meet, talk, laugh and feel part of something.
Accessible activity has brought people together around enjoyment, teamwork and friendly competition.
Experience from the programme informed a practical guide that helps residents build brilliant wellbeing communities.
These activities are happening now through Retirement Excellence partnerships and collaboration in local communities. Each one builds on the knowledge, interests and energy of older adults—and each can be replicated by older adults in more communities.
Older adults are helping to bring local woodland back to life—clearing paths, making bird and bat boxes, and sharing practical knowledge with younger generations.
Working with the local council, groups of volunteers are adopting previously unmaintained public rights of way and giving them regular, practical care.
Friendly, accessible local walks are bringing people together—including those with mobility challenges, poor sight, or returning to activity after illness or an operation.
Older adults are bringing local history to life by recording the oral histories of residents and creating welcoming opportunities to share memories and knowledge.
“The best outcome is not something we deliver—it is what people feel confident to create together afterwards.”

Short, practical ideas from our workshops and the forthcoming Being Brilliant at Retirement book. A new conversation can begin with one good question.
Retirement changes the shape of time. Start by noticing which people, places and activities make an ordinary week feel worthwhile—then protect space for them in your plan.
Being curious is not about filling every minute. It is about staying open to a new interest, a different conversation or a small experience that brings fresh energy.
A plan turns a good intention into a first step. Choose one meaningful priority, decide what support would help and give yourself a realistic point at which to review it.
